What Is the Xi-Amaru Tribe? The Xi Tribe Explained
Indigenous people of the Americas whose identity was displaced in the official record, moving forward together as a new tribal beginning.
The Xi tribe, also known as the Xi-Amaru tribe, is made up of the Indigenous people of the Americas who experienced genocide and denationalization and whose Indigenous identity was displaced in the official record. They are descendants of many American tribes who, through the right of self-determination, move forward together as a new tribal beginning. The Xi-Amaru Republic is the Indian country established for this people.
Who makes up the Xi tribe
Since the late twentieth century, a growing number of Aboriginal people in America, including many classified under the misnomer “Black,” have become aware of their Indigenous connection to this land. In many cases they descend from American tribes whose lines were recorded under racial classifications rather than tribal ones. See Indigenous Misclassification.
Why a new tribal beginning was needed
For much of the twentieth century, enrollment in a federally recognized tribe was treated as the only form of tribal belonging within the United States. Enrollment rules such as base rolls and blood quantum left many descendants with no route to membership and no way to restore their nationality as Indigenous. The answer was a people organizing itself: its ability to govern itself does not depend on approval from any other tribe or government.
That work was first organized through the Aboriginal Republic of North America (ARNA). On December 17, 2022, the Xi-Amaru Republic declared its independence as a separate nation, with a broader scope across the Americas. See The Xi-Amaru Republic and ARNA.
The Xi tribe and the Xi-Amaru Republic today
The Xi-Amaru Republic is an Indian country with its own government, legal system and cultural identity. Its administrative authority, the Aboriginal Ministry of Justice, administers Tribal Screening, national status and the Citizenship Procedure. Citizens are recognized as Xi-Amaru Native Americans. For the meaning of the name, see What Does Xi-Amaru Mean?.
“Indigenous peoples have the right to determine their own identity or membership in accordance with their customs and traditions. This does not impair the right of indigenous individuals to obtain citizenship of the States in which they live.”
“Self-identification as indigenous peoples will be a fundamental criterion for determining to whom this Declaration applies.”
